In an effort to encourage people to live in Alaska and to give a financial boost to those who do, the state has announced that it will be handing out a $1,702 stimulus payment.

This money is part of the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) project, designed to assist Alaskan families amidst the nation's challenging economic times and to provide an extra reason for Americans to move to the state.

The payout is a yearly tradition in Alaska, stemming from a special program called the Alaska Permanent Fund. It's meant to help thousands of residents who are facing hard times by giving them a bit of financial breathing room.

Unlike the federal stimulus checks that were sent out during the pandemic, this is a unique Alaskan benefit created from the income the state earns from its oil resources.

The $1,702 amount for the 2024 PFD is calculated by adding together two figures: a base dividend of $1,403.83 from the Permanent Fund, plus an additional bonus of $298.17.

Do You Qualify for the Alaskan Stimulus?

In order to be eligible for the payment, you must have lived in Alaska throughout all of 2024 and plan to stay there indefinitely. The purpose of this requirement is to motivate more people to make Alaska their permanent home, despite its tough climate.

Applicants also need to have stayed within Alaska for more than half the year (not being away for over 180 days), not applied to be a resident in another state, and they must be free of any felony charges or convictions.

Easing Living Costs with the Stimulus Payment

The $1,702 stimulus from Alaska is a timely boon for residents, especially useful for covering essential costs like rent and utilities:

  • Rent Relief: This payment can offer a significant aid towards monthly rent, making it easier for renters to manage their budgets better and stay current on payments. Homeowners might find it useful for mortgage or property maintenance costs.
  • Utilities Assistance: Given Alaska's challenging weather, utility bills for heating and electricity can skyrocket. The stimulus can help cover these expenses, ensuring homes remain warm and well-lit without financial strain.

Overall, this financial support is designed to lessen the burden of living expenses for Alaskans, promoting economic stability and adding a cushion that allows for better financial management across the community.

When Will the Payments be Made?

The payouts began on June 18, 2025. For those who are eligible and haven't received their 2024 dividend yet, two major dates are upcoming:

  • If your application shows "Eligible - Unpaid" on July 9, 2025, you'll get your payment on July 17, 2025.
  • If your status still reads "Eligible - Unpaid" on August 13, 2025, expect the deposit on August 21, 2025.

Residents looking to get this financial aid can mark these dates on their calendar, as they indicate when the much-needed funds will be arriving.
