In Tucson, Arizona, a project is set to start that will turn the old Amazon Motel into a new housing complex called Amazon Flats. This project will create 30 homes that will be affordable and provide long-term support for people with low incomes.

The Mayor of Tucson, Regina Romero, spoke about how important this project is for helping families find stable homes and improve their lives. She thanked Governor Katie Hobbs and the Arizona Department of Housing for their support.

This help includes a $6.1 million grant from the American Recovery Plan Act, which was used to buy the old motel and start fixing it up. The project will eventually expand to add over 50 more homes.

Old Pueblo Community Services will work with the city on this project, focusing on helping people who were once homeless.

Ann Chanecka, who leads Tucson's Housing and Community Development Department, talked about the city's commitment to solve the housing crisis by building affordable, good-quality homes.

This effort is part of a larger plan called the Housing Affordability Strategy for Tucson, which aims to create better living situations for vulnerable people in the community.
